It\u2019s a great way to remember the city you just visited and let them know they were missed. But how often do those items truly represent the region.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Hill is looking to bring that local touch to the Jacksonville International Airport terminal with her new store, \u201cMade in JAX.\u201d Located pre-security in the Central Courtyard between the Art Gallery and Starbucks, \u201cMade in JAX\u201d sells items created by Northeast Florida\u2019s artisans and artists.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em>Any<em>\u00a0<\/em>time I travel, I always forget to get a gift for whomever,&#8221; Hill said. \u201cThen you\u2019re at the airport and your best option is a coffee mug. She\u2019s successfully operated the Comfort Zone Spa at JAX <a href=\"http:\/\/flyjacksonville.com\/jetstream\/celebrating-10-years-at-jax-comfort-zone-spa\/\">for the last 10 years<\/a>, with another location at Palm Beach International Airport. In addition to massages, the spa offers pedicures, manicures and other services. Over the last few years, she began selling locally-made items in the spa as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time I tell the clients it&#8217;s locally made, I get a great reaction from them,\u201d Hill said. They tell me they love that and think it\u2019s a great idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/flyjacksonville.com\/jetstream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4856.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-654\" src=\"http:\/\/flyjacksonville.com\/jetstream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4856-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4856\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/flyjacksonville.com\/jetstream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4856-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/flyjacksonville.com\/jetstream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4856-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/flyjacksonville.com\/jetstream\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4856-1170x878.jpg 1170w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When a pre-security space became available at JAX, she had a lightbulb moment. \u201cPeople are looking for locally-made products instead of generic, cookie-cutter items,\u201d she said. \u201cI wanted to provide that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So Hill began building a store that featured items from artisans from the Northeast Florida area. A quick walk through the store and you will find a variety of local items: children\u2019s books written by authors in Jacksonville Beach, St. Augustine and Amelia Island, scarves from Jacksonville-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rethreaded.com\/\">\u201cRethreaded\u201d<\/a>, coffee from JAX Beaches\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.purabeancoffeeco.com\/\">Pura Bean<\/a>, and grilling spices from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freshjax.com\/index.html\">Fresh JAX<\/a>. Additional vendors include <a href=\"palmartsandphoto.com\">Palm Arts and Photo<\/a>, <a href=\"topsytoffee.com\">Topsy Toffee<\/a>, <a href=\"ameliatoffee.com\">Amelia Toffee<\/a>, <a href=\"theburlapbarnhomeandmarket.com\">Burlap Barn<\/a>, Carla Rose Designs, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minorcanmayhem.com\/\">Minorcan Mayhem<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it&#8217;s made locally we want it,\u201d Hill said. \u201cThe soaps, jewelry, and food products have been very popular. We have two soap vendors selling like crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked what surprising items people might find in the store, she was quick to respond: \u201cWe sell olive oil from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Florida-Olive-Farms-Mill-192215990864028\/\">Florida Olive Farms &amp; Mill<\/a> in Live Oak,\u201d she said. \u201cThey make it cold-pressed. I had no idea you could make olive oil in Florida!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One thing she would like to sell more of in \u201cMade at JAX\u201d is wall art. But she\u2019s confident as word gets out about the store, that they will be able to stock it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think people find it refreshing that they can find something that really is <em>from<\/em> Jacksonville,\u201d Hill said. \u201cI keep thinking of it as souvenirs from here, but I\u2019ve noticed a lot of folks from here enjoy picking up something to take to someone they are visiting as a gift <em>from<\/em> their hometown.
