Just a week after the inaugural flight from Jacksonville to Pensacola, Silver Airways announced the addition of yet another flight to the First Coast.

This time, the service is expanding outside the Sunshine State, where it offers several intra-state flights: Now it's offering flights between Jacksonville and Birmingham, Alabama and between Birmingham and New Orleans.

Starting June 16, the company will fly daily nonstop between Jacksonville and Birmingham, and twice daily nonstop between Birmingham and New Orleans.

Part of the plan, said CEO Sami Teittinen in a phone interview before the announcement, was to create a triangle between the three cities, and to connect more underserved and out-of-state markets.

An added benefit with the two new flights is connecting the airline's existing locations, including one-stop service to Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and the Bahamas.

“The recent start of Silver’s nonstop service to Pensacola and this week’s Birmingham announcement indicate Silver’s confidence in the Jacksonville market,” said Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Steve Grossman in a statement. “We are very pleased that the Northeast Florida business community will once again have nonstop service to Birmingham.”
